I have been selling amber fossils for over 15 years on eBay and do not sell fake amber only genuine material from now extinct plant sources not glass or plastic embedded with present day inclusions. This piece is genuine amber formed over millions of years of polymerization.This is a fully polished, gem quality piece of Burmite (Burmese) amber that contains a nicely preserved, large click beetle from the Cretaceous Period. This insect has been trapped from the time of the dinosaurs including T-Rex and Triceratops!The piece itself weighs 0.3 grams with approximate dimensions of 1.5 cm length by 1.3 cm width and 0.2 cm height. NOTE: 2.54 cm is 1 inch. Burmite (Burmese) amber is difficult to acquire and has been dated to be Cretaceous in age (around 100 million years old) and would have been sticky resin during the time of the dinosaurs and is being mined in the Hukawng Valley in Myanmar (Burma).Please mouse over or click on images to see a larger view. Please note that the saltwater test to identify real from fake amber is not reliable. The saltwater test claims that real amber will float in saltwater while fake amber will sink. However, many amber sources or even specimens will not float in saltwater as their botanical (plant) composition as well as fossil inclusions are such that they are more dense than saltwater and so sink. I do not sell fake amber. My feedback should help demonstrate this.
