Sussex. 2/ 60th Anniversary of Bader Bale Out, 9th August 2001. Pictorial Parachute in the centre. This Cover was flown in Hurricane 11c LF 363 At the Royal International Air Tattoo RAF Cottesmore Sunday 29th July 2001 Pilot Sq Leader Shinny Simmons. Nice picture on the front cover of The Bader Bale Out by Artist Frank Wootton. The reverse of the cover has the certification. This is cover 230 of 250 This Cover has the genuine hand signed signature of Lady Bader, the wife of the hero. Lady Bader was the widow of Battle of Britain flying hero Sir Douglas Bader. She was a former nurse who worked during World War II and became the second wife of Sir Douglas Bader in 1973, after the pilot had been widowed. She gave much of her time to charities , including Guide Dogs for the Blind and Riding for the Disabled. She was awarded an OBE for her services to disabled people. Group Captain Sir Douglas Robert Bader, CBE, DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar, DL, FRAeS (1910-1982) was a Royal Air Force flying ace during the Second World War. He was credited with 22 aerial victories, four shared victories, six probables, one shared probable and 11 enemy aircraft damaged. He is remembered for his extreme bravery, especially as he lost both legs before the war started while attempting aerobatics. His bravery was immortalised in the 1956 film ‘Reach for the Sky’.
