When those students were coming from their regions for conferences or symposiums, they traditionally were bringing all kinds of gifts for my uncle. Since we all lived in apartments, all of us could keep only so much of various chachkis. So on a monthly basis we were getting parcels with all kinds of goodies. These knives were in one of those parcels. When we immigrated to USA over quarter of a century ago, I tried to bring as much as I can from Ukraine as memories of childhood and USSR memorabilia. Even despite we are not in a flat any longer, we still can keep only so much.
