Description: I have for sale a 1909 medal from New Rochelle, New York, unknown what it commemorates. The medal has two parts that are made of gilded metal, and it's in uncirculated condition. It is 2 1/4 inches long and the top pinback bar is 1 1/2 inches wide. The top bar reads LA ROCHELLE. The bottom piece has the years 1688 and 1909. In the round center scene, you see an early settler standing on land, with a ship in the background and two men in a smaller boat, close to him. New Rochelle was settled by Huguenots, French Protestants, in 1688, who fled France and many were from the City of La Rochelle in France, thus the name New Rochelle. This medal was made by the Robbins company of Attleboro, Mass. Please see over 950 more collectibles for sale in my EBAY STORE at TE Collectables. (19,319 ORD)
