The ribbed vertical edges define its shape and that means a lot less tuggling to get it where it goes. The pockets are small, the neck and wrist bands of ribbing are not superstretchy so they define the fit without prolonged edges. The buttons and buttonhole edges have been reinforced with grosgrain ribbon – a good idea, since these are major stressors. It is early, not recent John Laing and the labels indicate it was originally sold through a high end shop on Bond Street in London, when that was the epicenter of fine tailoring and amazing fabrics. That would carbon-date this as the 1960s to 1990s.
