Description: JEAN-BAPTISTE-CAMILLE COROTLe Dome Florentin1869 Etching on thick cream imitation japan paper (?). Plate: 9 1/2x6 3/8 inches. Trimmed margins 1/4 - 3/4 inch per side. Toned. Second state (of 3). Delteil 13; Melot 13. Pencil annotation faintly in lower right stating "Bon a Tire", marking this as a proof before the edition of 50. Melot writes "Printing of 50 on Japan paper with 'Corot inv. et se.' in the lower right for the first copies of Loys Delteil, La Peintre-graveur illustre, vol. V, 1910." He continues to write that the larger edition of 350 adds the title Le Dome florentin at center and Le Peintre-graveur illustre T.V. above at right. Since this is missing the title at center, it is a trial proof of the earlier (second) state. The drypoint is still coming through strongly as shown in my photos. Other impressions in this state generally sell for 1,000-2,000 at auction.
