Description: Circa 1980 - 1990's JCS - James Seagraves Pennsylvania German Folk Art Redware Pottery Tulip Flower Plate Bowl with handles, Signed JCS - OOAK Scarce FOLK ART Redware 7 Inch - PA Americana James Christian Seagraves (1913 - 1997) lived in Breinigsville, PA and was a revivalist potter. In 1976 he began making pottery and creating his own design style based of traditional Pennsylvania German pottery. Seagraves created press molded figural birds with bright color glazes. To prevent reproductions the molds were destroyed following his death. The plate is in general great condition consistent with use and age. No cracks or loss of material is observed. The plate has a nice Redware and Sgraffito color pigmentation and patina. It has been part of our personal collection for over 20 years. The bottom of the plate is signed by JCS and un-dated. It has the elaborated design of folk tulip flowers in sgraffito / slipware. Please see photos for condition. We have several plates by Seagraves. Be in the outlook of the listings.
