Description: Offered by Over The Blue Horizon is an outstanding pictorial recently obtained in Tokyo: “MODEL ART PROFILE 7: FIGHTER SUPPORT F-2 OF JASDF F-2 A/B”, from the long-running MODEL ART SPECIAL publications series The Japan Air Self Defence Force (JASDF) F-2 Support Fighter is a multirole, single-engine fighter aircraft jointly developed/produced by Mitsubishi and Lockheed Martin. It is based on the USAF’s F-16C/D Fighting Falcon with some differences based upon a different mission set-- although like the USAF’s F-16, it capable of both air-to-air and air-to-surface roles but emphasizes the air-to-surface role because its primary mission is protection of Japan’s sea lanes. The F-2 has a wing area that is enlarged approximately 25 percent over the F-16 wing area. The larger wing allows more internal fuel storage and two more weapon store stations than the F-16. Japan elected to fabricate the wing substructure using graphite epoxy and by applying state-of-the-art co-cured composite technology to maximize the strength while minimizing the weight. In addition to the larger wing area, the F-2 fuselage is approximately 17 inches longer than that of the F-16. The horizontal tails are also larger. This ‘MODEL ART PROFILE’ series began publication in 2007 and covers aircraft flown by the Japan during WWII as well as more current jet aircraft flown by the JASDF. This exceptionally well-done, 140-page softcover focused on the JASDF’s new F-2 aircraft and targets the advanced modeler as it includes 27 pages of a photographic sequence of four different kit builds: HASEGAWA 1/48 F-2B; HASEGAWA 1/72 F-2A; and a PLATZ 1/144 F-2A. Printed on high-quality glossy paper throughout, this superb publication is absolutely jam-packed with photographs (mostly in color), profiles, and line drawings.
