JACOB BLANCK -- Bibliography of American Literature, Volumes 1-9 -- COMPLETE SET

Description: Measuring about 7-1/2" x 10-1/4", these nine books make up the complete 9-volume set of the iconic "Bibliography of American Literature", compiled for the Bibliographical Society of America, and published by Yale University Press. All nine volumes are compiled by Jacob Blanck, but volumes 7, 8 and 9 are also "edited and completed" by Michael Winship (with Virginia L. Smyers as co-editor of Volume 7). Since the set was issued over a period of several decades, each volume has its own history, and, as is common with such hefty reference works, most of them are ex-library copies, with stickers on their spines, and stampings and other library markings on the page edges, end papers, title pages and elsewhere.I've shown all nine volumes in the first four pictures, followed by pictures of each volume's title page and copyright page. Volume by volume, these are some other observations I can offer: Volume 1 (Adams to Byrne), copyright dated 1955, but stated to be the Fifth Printing, 1977. Volume 2 (Cable to Dwight), copyright dated 1957, but stated to be the Fifth Printing, 1977. Volume 3 (Eggleston to Harte), copyright dated 1959, but stated to be the Fourth Printing, 1977. Volume 4 (Hawthorne to Ingraham), copyright dated 1963, but stated to be the Fourth Printing, 1977. Volume 5 (Irving to Longfellow), copyright dated 1969, but stated to be the Third Printing, 1976. Volume 6 (Longstreet to Parsons), copyright dated 1973, but stated to be the Third Printing, 1978. Volume 7 (Paulding to Stockton), First Printing, 1983. Volume 8 (Stoddard to Warner), First Printing, 1990. Volume 9 (Westcott to Wylie), First Printing, 1991. The only one that is NOT ex-library is Volume 9, and the others are not all from the same library. Apart from the ex-library markings, they are in generally excellent condition, with the bindings nice and tight but with signs of spine cocking on some of them, and a 1-inch vertical tear at the top of the spine to Volume 5.
