The front of the medallion features "Italia Navigazione 1974"with a red-and-white enameled flag and marked ".925" indicating it is sterling silver. The back of the medallion features the portside profile of the container ship, the ship's name "AMERICANA" on the portside bow and marked on the lower right with the designer's name "S. JOHNSON" and "Renice" on the lower left with a map outline of the US East Coast.
