Description: AN IMMACULATE 1/9 PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE CASE WITH HANDSOME SEATED GENTLEMAN - CIRCA 1840's - You are considering a very pristine ninth plate daguerreotype case I believe was generally used by Fredrick Langenheim who operated out of Philadelphia. The earlier effort dates to the 1840's with the silk pillow, the lack of a preserver and the seated gentleman's clothing style. The case retains the original hinge, the single working clasp, red silk pillow remains in beautiful condition. The image and case would be an excellent addition to anyones early American photographic collection. Here is the rare opportunity to add an extremely special case daguerreotype possibly by one of the more respected operators of his time to your personal collection. Good luck to the winner and next caretaker. CONDITION: Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. The ninth plate has been resealed with P90+ and new glass applied. Some small amounts of patina and tarnish are visible on the plate, but the image does not have any wipes. The identified likeness has wonderful contrast, nice tonal range and excellent sharpness. The hand tinting is wonderfully applied to her dress and face. Again, the case design is extremely rare. The housing retains the original hinge, the working clasp system and a beautiful velvet pillow. The rare piece of the child's dress is adhered to the backside of the case and the paper notation is attached to the velvet pillow.
