The volume is bound in full gilt-paneled black leather having a gilt-ruled spine with 4 gilt-rolled raised bands and title in gilt. Endpapers are marbled paper and all page edges are stained red. The front panel in stamped in gilt with the ownership of James Brayley and laid in is an 1879 letter to James in Milton Junction from his brother Jeremiah concerning his ability to only controbute $125 towards the interest on a First National Bank ok Rock Island, Ill. bank loan.
