Description: Now with lower prices computed based on power and REF frequency. ;-) This listing is for a several of HP/Agilent 5517 or 5501B laser TUBE ASSEMBLIES suitable for education, research, experimentation, and hobbyist applications. These are only what is shown in the photos, NOT the entire laser. They include the glass laser tube with cables in giant magnet, beam expander, waveplates, and feet. The output power for some is too low or marginal to meet spec but they would be excellent for hobbyist, experimenter, and research applications. And many require more current to stay lit than my cutoff of 4.0 mA. Please do not try to sneak one into your $100,000,000.00 wafer fab! ;-) And their life is likely not to be that great, perhaps 1-2 months in 24/7 operation. Or less. 15 VDC-input HeNe laser power supply bricks (like the one found in 5501B and 5517 lasers) may be found in listing: 303521961061 . The adjustable one would be needed for those tubes requiring 4 mA or 4.5 mA (if noted), but if bought along with any of these tubes, it would only be $75. These tubes should work in a 5501B/5517 laser chassis (subject to the power supply current requirements). It should also be possible to stabilize them with DIY locking electronics like µSLC1. See item # 303881941619. For complete HP/Agilent/Keysight lasers and displacement measuring systems with better tubes, see my other listings. The following are currently available. 5517AS/5501B (1 mm beam), >210 µW, 1.6 MHz. Requires greater than 4 mA (B9). 5501B/5517B/AS, >130 µW, 2.1 MHz (B9).5517C/B/AS/5501B, >230 µW, 2.4 MHz. Requires greater than 4 mA (B9). 5517AS/5501B, >285 µW, 1.77 MHz. Requires greater than 4 mA (B10). 5517C/B/AS/5501B, >150 µW, 2.70 MHz (B10).5517D/C/B/AS/5501B, >140 µW, 4.1 MHz (B10). 5517AS/5501B, >225 µW, 1.65 MHz. Requires greater than 4 mA (B9).5517C/B/AS/5501B, >195 µW, 3.3 MHz. Requires 4 mA (B9).5517B/AS/5501B, >240 µW, 1.91 MHz. Requires greater than 4 mA (B5).5517AS/5501B, >188 µW, 1.65 MHz. Requires greater than 4 mA (B8).5517AS/5501B (1 mm beam), >170 µW, 1.79 MHz. Requires greater than 4 mA (B2).5517AS/5501B, >158 µW, 1.71 MHz. Requires greater than 4 mA (B4).5517C/B/AS/5501B, >157 µW, 2.70 MHz. Requires greater than 4 mA (B6).5517B/AS/5501B, >161 µW, 2.20 MHz. Requires 4 mA (B1).5517C/B/AS/5501B, >237 µW, 2.95 MHz. Requires 4 mA (B3).5517B/AS/5501B, >263 µW, 2.10 MHz. Requires 4 mA (B3).5517AS/5501B, >246 µW, 1.67 MHz. Requires greater than 4.5 mA (B10).5517AS/5501B, >400 µW, 1.64 MHz. May not restart hot but fine otherwise (B7). Bn = the box where the tube is located. ;-) Multiple models may be listed for each tube because the REF frequency can be easily reduced. So for example, a 5517C can be converted into a 5517AS either permanently or reversibly. Going the other way is usually NOT possible. And a 5517 can be converted into a 5501B or vice-versa by adjusting the waveplates. All except #1 and #11 have 6 mm beams. Other beam diameters may be available at between free and modest cost. Opting for the raw beam (narrow but usually diverging at 8-10 mR) or for a 1 mm collimated beam will save a few bucks but must be requested. The output powers are approximate and what these produce after full warmup with the heater powered including any beam expander and waveplates if locked at the optimum location for two frequency operation. REF frequencies are approximate but will be within the spec'd range for each laser model. The locked power in a laser will be 15-20 percent lower due to losses in its beam sampler. Some of these tubes run on the default tube current of 3.5 mA but most may require as much as 4.5 mA to light stably when at the locked temperature. They should all lock reliably in a standard 5501B or 5517 laser, requiring only the heater set-point adjustment (subject to the power supply current requirement). Note: The tubes labeled "5517AS" have 5517A REF specs but will NOT fit in a 5517A laser body without an adapter for the mounting and adjustment of the waveplates, left as an exercise for the student. "S" stands for small case, got it? ;-) #6 is not really a 5517D tube, but just a high mileage 5517B tube with specs similar to those of the 5517D. But it would make a nice Zeeman laser nerd test unit with a split frequency close to the maximum possible. ;-) Much of the cost for these tube assemblies is in the beam expanders and waveplates, and perhaps the mounting feet. ;-) For tube assemblies with only the tubes at much lower prices, see item #303520748022. For studying the intricacies of Zeeman lasers, those luxuries are not needed. However, some of these are redundant, so better to simply ask about the cost for only the tube without the waveplates and beam expander. Complete hobbyist and full spec HP/Agilent/Keysight 5517 lasers, as well as HeNe laser power supplies for these tubes, are also available. Check my other listings and/or inquire with your specific requirements. The 5501A tube is also available with a guaranteed tested HeNe laser power supply brick from a 5501A as well as each of the 5501A control PCBs (but these are not tested). Inquire if interested. These laser tube assemblies come with a 30 day warranty. However, I will also provide a "Thesis Duration Warranty" free of charge. This means that if you are doing research for a degree and the laser is turned off when not actually being used for more than a few hours, I will guarantee that it will last the duration of your dissertation work as long as you aren't one of those perpetual students w ho never really intends to graduate. :) This will also apply to startup or incubator/maker space projects. In addition, I will be happy to provide lifetime email (or even possibly Zoom) tech support for these lasers or where possible, your research. "Lifetime" is defined as yours or mine or however long you retain an interest in this stuff, not to exceed the future life of the Universe. ;-) Thanks for looking! :-) --- sam
