Description: Horace Mann School Pennant Circa. Mid-Late 1930s. Chipenco. Chicago, Illinois. Why is this cool, you say? Well it's a Horace Mann pennant with a label that puts it in the date range of when Jack Kerouac attended. This is not in any way Kerouac's personal pennant it's simply in the date range of his attendance. Now I understand that Kerouac was only there for a year in 1939-40. This pennant and it's label date it to between 1933-1939. Which means there's a chance this is a 1939 but I cannot be sure. As far as the label dating, see below: "By 1933, however, Chipenco had put down roots in what would amount to their seventh location in their first two decades of existence: 1711 W. 74th St. At this point they changed the label to the one seen on this pennant. And would remain that label until they moved to a new location According to Illinoiss corporate registry Chipenco remained at this 74th St. location through 1940." Also the date of 1887 matches the schools inauguration date. So if you're a hardcore collector and want an interesting piece. I'm your guy. Condition. Good Plus. Moderate handling wear and edge wear. A touch of fabric loss to edges. A few moth holes from decades past. Now kept in a sealed bag in a sealed bin. The lettering and design have become firm to the touch. However most of it is beautifully intact. Please see photos for complete condition. Check out my page for more Beat Generation Literature, Art and More.
