Description: Cool find. This is the 1910 Everyman's Library edition of Honore de Balzac's "About Catherine de Medici." What makes it particularly interesting is that the owners of this book, who inscribed their names on it in 1927 while in Venice, decided to splurge on a bespoke binding by the fine Italian bookbinder A. Genova, for it. You can see Genova's bold gilt binder's stamp ("A. Genova, Venezia") on the lower right hand of the back cover. The binding is full polished leather with elaborate gilt designs to front and back covers, raised bands, inner dentelles, and silk moire endpapers. The top edge is gilted and stamped in a cool pattern. The cover has seen some wear and rubbing (see photos) but still presents beautifully on the shelf. The binding also is very suitable for the Italian subject of Balzac's book.
