Roughly translated, the coaster says:* What is it?* Rejoicing from 8 am to 12 pm, singing Hosanna! from 12 pm to 8 pm Aloisius is the main character from the humorous tale by the famous Bavarian writer and poet Ludwig Thom. In short, a man named Alois Hingerl, a worker at the Munich train station, died, went to Heaven and was made an angel. He did not much care for the angelic duties (as shown on the coaster - just a bunch of rejoicing and singing) and was sent back to Munich to provide heavenly advise to the Bavarian government. He was so overjoyed to be back home, he visited the Hofbräuhaus and ordered ein Mass of beer. One Mass turned into another and eventually he forgot his mission. Legend has it he is still sitting in the HB bier hall enjoying his Mass to this day and the Bavarian government had to make do without divine guidance. The was poem originally written in the unique Bavarian dialect.
