Description: Tablut is a tafl variant that was played by the Sami peoples of northern Scandinavia until the 18th or 19th century . It is played on a 9x9 grid. Tafl games, also known as "Viking Chess" are a family of asymmetric strategy games that were played throughout northern Europe in the Middle Ages. The goal of the defenders is to get their king safely from the center of the board to a corner (or in some rule variations/reconstructions of the rules, just to the edge of the board). The attackers' goal is to capture the defenders' king before it can escape to the edge or corner. All pieces move like the chess rook. Capturing is done by surrounding a piece on 2 sides with opposing pieces, this style of capture is called custodial capture and is also used in games like the Roman Ludus Latrunculorum game. Captures can also be done by surrounding a piece with one opponent and either the central or corner squares which are marked with an X. Includes: Gray: 1 king, 8 defenders Black: 16 attackers Laser Engraved 9x9 board annotated with numbered columns and Elder Futhark ranks. If you prefer alphabetic ranks instead just send me a message and I can change the rank labels. 1x cloth bag for storing pieces
