Description: The History of England Written in French by Rapin de Thoyras and translated into English with Additional notes, by N. Tindal, M. A. Vicar of Great Waltham in Essex The Second Edition Volumes I & II Volume I: Has the following written on the top right corner of the title page in faded pen: William Mungale Bought March 29th 1783 The boards have some wear consistent with their age with frayed/damaged corners and spine edges and general scuffing, but the binding is solid and intact. The pages are all attached with very little soiling. I'm not sure if they are missing, but there are no free pages before the title page at the front, yet there are two free pages present at the back of the book. The book is illustrated with illustrations, fold-out maps, geneological family trees, etc. Some of the fold-out material has rips and tears due to its fragile nature. Volume II: Has the following written on the back of the title page in faded pen: William Mungale Bought from John Renney's Widow The first page has the following written in the middle: John Renne Merener Falkirk Has Book Bought at Londen 1769 Prys. S. Pou The boards have some wear with frayed/damaged corners and spine edges and general scuffing. The front cover is still attached to the binding, but only near the middle, having partially split at the top and bottom. The first free page is missing. The title page has some damage and is missing some parts and looks like it has been pasted onto another sheet for backing. The first several pages have some wear, rips and tears and some small parts of the text are missing in a couple of them. There are very few illustrations as compared to the first volume, but there is a fold-out genealogical table at the back of the book. The Index section at the back of the volume has some wear and one of the pages has some tears and is missing the bottom piece. After the Index, there is also an "Extract of a letter from Mr. Rapin to Monsieur Robethon, a considerable Person in the Service of his late Majesty King George I", as well as an Advertisement and and Errata section for both Volume I & II--this page is creased and has a hole on the bottom near the spine. Volume I has 849 numbered pages, measures approximately 15-1/4" x 9-7/8" x 2-3/8" and weighs 8 lbs. Volume II has 807 numbered pages with an index section for both volumes at the back of the book, measures approximately 15-1/4" x 9-7/8" x 2-3/8" and weights 7 lbs 5 oz.
