Description: The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk is an American single engine all metal fighter and ground attack aircraft that first flew in 1938. The Warhawk was used by most Allied powers during World War Two and remained in frontline service until the end of the war. It was the third most produced American fighter of World War Two after the North American P-51 Mustang and the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt. When production of the P-40 stopped, there were a total of 13,738 that had been manufactured. In September of 1940, the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) ordered the first production line modification to its singlr seat pursuit fighter, the P-40. The updated production run was designated the P-40B. There were 131 examples built, beginning in January of 1941 at the Curtiss Plant in Buffalo, New York. In March of 1941, this aircraft Number (284) was delivered to the USAAC and assigned to the 6th Pursuit Squadron, 18th Pursuit Group, out of Ohau, Hawaii. Seven months after the delivery, this same P-40B was involved in what has been misstated by some, as a wheels up landing requiring the aircraft be placed in a maintenance hanger for repair. The aircraft was still in the hanger undergoing repairs when the Japanese attacked Peal Harbor on 07 December 1941. This seemingly minor twist of fate most likely saved 284 from being destroyed. This aircraft later crashed in Oahu during a training flight. The aircraft was ultimately considered salvagable and was fully restored by the Curtiss Wright Historical Association in Torrance, California. This 1:44 scale diecast reproduction of this famous aircraft is a very detailed and difficult model to find. It is completely assembled and comes with a historical paint scheme, detailed landing gear, rotating propeller, and removable canopy with detailed cockpit. The model is approximately 8.50" long with a 10.00" wingspan. All sales are final. Shipping to the USA only. NOTE: This is the only one available.
