HC Sterling Silver Hattie Carnegie Starburst Brooch Signed 1940s Handmade

Description: Here's a wonderful Hattie Carnegie starburst, unusual in its construction: the center stone doesn't directly connect with the rays of the star, but is instead seated on a bar that crosses the back. This would entail a great deal of extra work for the maker, and could only be accomplished in a piece made by hand. I assume the stone to be glass. The "HC" mark inside a diamond shape indicates this to be an early piece: "Carnegie’s early pieces are often creative and quirky such as a cupid figure riding a balloon swing or handsome unicorn brooches made in several variations. These pieces made through the 1940s are marked HC within a diamond." -- From Kovel's Antique Trader. Size is about 1 1/4" across. This is a weighty little piece made of solid sterling.
