We've categorized the Hanwei rapier blades onto 3 general groups; hard (3.5" deflection or less, very rare), too soft (over 4.5" deflection), and just right at 4". I personally feel that the blades are all safe, but technically I could be disqualified in competition for mine being hard, and a comrade at arms prefers his soft so he doesn't have to hold back when he thrusts.
