Description: NATIVE GOLD QUARTZ SPECIMEN from QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA Ruler is 1/4" wide (6 mm). U.S. 10 cent coin is 17 mm in diameter. Specimen weight: .64 Grams - 9.9 Grains Size: 10.1X7.9X5.4 mm Intruded with precious metal, quartz become highly collectible. Now, you've entered the mystical realm of GOLD! This is a small piece of high grade ore. Miners don't often luck onto bonanza pockets, veins, or isolated pieces of high-grade float with VG; gold you can actually see with the naked eye. Some mines, like the Gympie-Eldorado, contain massive vein systems brimming with gold. Ore bodies can assay hundreds, even thousands of ounces of Au per ton. The brilliant golden presence is obvious in this rock; the product of naturally-occurring mineralization. Two other minerals are associated with the gold; one is silvery-looking, the other black and dull. A band of wall rock, possibly dolerite, caps one side of this quartz pebble. I don't sell low grade gold ores. I sell naturally-occurring gold quartz ores with visible gold. These high-grade beauties are expensive to acquire and even harder to find. Prices aren't based on the amount of gold, but on the authenticity, rarity and collectibility of specimens. U.S. SHIPPING - $4.00 (includes USPS tracking to all U.S. destinations) INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS S&H $16.00 FAST REFUND OFFERED (If, for any reason, you're not happy with this item) For years, I poured through old mining dumps with a hand-held pocket lens. Within the countless rock piles, I observed every color of the rainbow; white, orange, yellow, red rust, black, burnt, cindery-looking rocks. Anything that looked promising was examined. In all that time, I never find one solitary piece with visible gold in it. That still seems remarkable given the law of averages and the sheer number of rocks involved. Granted, when you've blessed with a rich claim to work, finding gold may seem easy. Having gold staring you in the face every day is really quite a luxury. Most small-scale artisanal miners will tell you a far different story. They reached the same conclusion as me long ago, i.e. "there's no easy ounces." That's the reality. Yet, having spent years in the trade, I honestly believe a person stands a better chance now than ever before of locating a paying gold deposit. Twenty five years ago, no one forsaw gold prices increasing by six or seven times. Knowing that, who in their right mind would have sold their finds? Problem is, when your beans play out, men in survival mode do what they must. Jumping ahead to the present, conditions couldn't be better for gold mining. All it takes is time, determination, the right tools, hard work, good luck, and access to righteous claims or the right friend with good claims. Access entails several factors not the least of which are favorable mining regs that allow a prudent man to mine his claim. Super-heated hydrothermal solutions, associated with volcanic activity, carry dissolved gold along with silica. Under intensely-high pressure, this aqueous mixture fills natural fissures and faults in major geological formations. Contact alteration zones act as interfaces between larger rock formations. Oftimes, contacts become the recipients of metals carried by the hot waters. Dissolved minerals like gold, silver, copper, lead, et al, as they cool, crystallize and harden into veins, sills, dikes, ledges, etc. The same principle applies to much larger geological formations. Contact zones are ideal areas for prospectors to hone in on. If canyons, creeks, rivers, arroyos, et al drain and carry alluvial material away from these contact zones, a prospector/miner may be in business. NO COUNTRY FOR OLD WOMEN (or men and dogs, for that matter) In the early 1980s, I tried my hand mining the Hassayampa river. That's some tough country, ladies and gentlemen. I'll never know how cattle avoid the green mojaves slithering gracefully through the thickets without getting snake-bit. Eighteen miles below the county seat of Prescott, you'll find an innocent-enough looking spot on the map masquerading as a town. The place’s name is Wilhoit, or, as it’s better known, Nowhere. Back when I mined the area, two sweet, colorful souls, Ted Jack and his wife Lil, owned and operated one of the few business establishments in town, a waterhole aptly named The Burro Inn. Five miles downhill from their cantina lay the ‘mighty’ Hassayampa. For some unfathomable reason, the area became my favorite stomping ground for three summers. About the only thing important to me back then was learning all I could about placer mining. This watershed represented the main north south artery draining the central Bradshaw Mountains range. Gold had been discovered and mined from it's gravel beds since the 1800s or maybe earlier. A river in name only, the Hassayampa meanders listlessly downstate towards the desert metropolises of Wickenburg and Phoenix. For the better part of the year, this basin appears bone dry. It's not really. Stagnant pools of water stand here and there even during the summer months. At one time, someone began calling it the Upside Down River. Rumor has it water runs on bedrock underneath the streambed sediment. When the river's hydrologically-active and decides to run, it meanders through a beautiful lowland valley where she's been winding for maybe a million years. If a person heads east off highway 89 and follows the Waggoner road, once you reach the river, you'll see beautiful ranchos covered with cottonwoods and mesquite. Recalling my last visit, I remember how those spreads looked so lush, green, and idyllic. One would surmise it's on account of the active aquifer in residence. H-m-m? Imagine that. Despite appearances, it’s not hard to envision how rough life is for ranch hands herding cows through that harsh chaparral country sweat pouring down your face and swarms of unruly no-see-ums driving a poor cowgirl crazy.
