Description: Extremely rare wood engraving published in 1598 in Venice, Italy on a Greek religious woman (Title of the engraving Religiosa Greca). This extraordinary testimony to costumes and fashion is certainly one of the first iconographic representations of Greek nuns. This exceptional engraving is taken from the rare work of Vecellio Cesare published in 1598 in its second edition. Picturesque costume books were particularly in Vogue at the time, especially in the Venice region, where several titles appeared in the second half of the 16th century. Vecellio's collection is probably the most famous example of this production. This second edition is considerably enriched compared to the previous one, with just under a hundred additional plates.
