Description: Offered for sale is a Great Blue Heron Wood Carving Bust by Thomas T. Lewis of Erie, Pennsylvania. Erie is located directly on the south shore of Lake Erie. The heron is attached to a beautiful burl wood stand that accentuates the natural curves of the bird's silhouette. The colors and proportions are very accurate, and the breast has detailed relief carving (photo 9). Lewis added beautiful yellow glass eyes to give the heron a lifelike appearance, and even the chin has some rasping (photo 7). Overall, the piece measures 9.5 inches in length and almost 6 inches high. The heron itself is 7 inches long and 4 inches in height. The bottom of the stand has the species name, artists signature (illegible), and the date of 10 / 2015. The paint is all original with no touch-up, and the carving is free of repairs or breaks. The heron carving will be heavily bubble wrapped and mailed in a larger box with plenty of extra cardboard and paper packing material. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
