One of the Best ! Treasures of a G.D. Venue ?!! Always still ! managing to ( kind-of ... ) stay under the radar ! What a Dancin' Floor !! Ha ! Awesome ... This is the Vintage Original ( Genuine / Authentic ) Grateful Dead Backstage Pass ( sticker-patch / satin ) for the 1991 Summer Tour " Rex Foundation Benefit " run of Shows ! - at the Cal Expo Amphitheatre, in Sacramento, California ( CA ) - on May 5, 1991 ( 5/5/1991 ) !! A Pass that speaks for itself ! - in the " Bertha !!! " style & fashion !! My goodness - did I love Cal Expo ... which, always seemed to feature lots of " Rex " Shows too - in this Late-'80's / Early-'90's Era for the Band !! And, this run was right at the start of the 1991 Summer Tour too ... which, ended up being pretty darn Hot ! - as a whole !! There were some serious changes during this time ( obviously ... ) - and, it's pretty hard to top what the Band was up to in both ! 1989 & 1990 - but, I feel they really ! rose to the occasion night-after-night ! - all things considered. Three nights in Vegas ! with Santana !! kicked off this '91 Summer Tour - and then it was off the Expo ... for Three !!! And, what made this run pretty Musically-Interesting, at least to my ears - is that there was no Bruce Hornsby at these three Expo Shows. So ... Musically, the Band was delivering a product more along the lines of say ... the '92 Fall Tour - or, say ... 1993-like ?! But, it was indeed 1991 - so, there was still some of that infectious Energy ! pound-for-pound with consistency ! And too, at least in my mind ... Rock & Roll is best-played - with only one Keys player. But, then again - as far as two Drummers go ? I'll take it ! Ha ! This 5/5/91 Show was on a Sunday - and, though my opinion might be in the overall minority - I kind of thought that this night was the Hottest !?! With, naturally ... the Help > Slip ! > Franklin's Opener !! - and, a Blistering ! Other One !! having much to do with my opinion. The Saturday Show delivered a Race Is On - New Speedway > Music ! ... and also, the Playin' > Uncle John's - so, that seemed to be the favorite of most. But, with this 3-Show run being a Rex-run ? - Wow ... it was just really ' On ! ' every night !! Because when it's for Rex ! - the Band just seems to push it a " little bit harder ... and just a little bit more " !! I mean hey - just-think " Cal Expo '93 " !!! Now, you see what I mean ! Smokin' !!! And, as for this Pass itself ? Most-definitely a ' Must-Have ' in the design - as this is after all Bertha ! that we are talking about here !! And, the Red, White & Baby-Blue ! version !! This Pass design was used a few different times by GDP - and mostly ... in 1987 & 1991 ! But ... when I get to thinking about it - I'm pretty sure that this 5/5/91 Cal Expo Pass is really one of the only-times - if not ' the ' only time that it was used for a California ! Show ?!? I can remember Philly & N.Y. versions in '87 - and also RFK in '91 too ... but, I can't think of another for Cali ??! Which makes this one way-cool, at least to me ... one for the Golden State ! - and, one for Cal Expo !!! The Good Ol' Early-'90's ! Grateful Dead !!! - doin' it like usual ... in Sacto !! - and, for Rex !!! ... Enjoy !!!!!
