We have truck farmed for 30+ years and use these vegetable varieties our-self on our Southern Illinois farm, Grapette Hybrid Tomatoes will be available at our farm stand this season as quickly as they ripen on the vine. This year we have decided to offer the same seed varieties we grow for sale in our Ebay store, our seeds are acquired fresh annually in bulk from Horticultural Products and Services of Wisconsin and broken down into smaller, manageable lots. Grapette Hybrid Tomato are an semi-determinate type tomato (we have grown these for 20+ years and they will continue to grow and set blooms all season, although they do slow down as the season advances), They grow to 48-60" high and produce loads of 1/3 -1/2 oz oblong red skinned fruits, reaching maturity at around 75 days from transplant. These do best when staked and you do want to keep up with the tying, as they do want to run on the ground if allowed. Plants do best in full sun, tomatoes need 1-2" of water a week. We like to start our tomatoes in the greenhouse 6-8 weeks before setting them in the field. I find setting our tomatoes on 3 foot wide black synthetic mulch in very beneficial, in as much as it retains heat in the early spring, retains moisture when the weather gets dry, and retards weed growth all season.
