Description: Franklin D. Roosevelt Signed Letter Governor New York 3 March 1932 Item: Signed letter by Franklin D. Roosevelt (January 30, 1882 - April 12, 1945) Date: March 18, 1932 Size: Approx. 8" x 10 1/2" (Letter) Approx. 13 1/2" x 16" (Framed and Matted) Description: Original, hand signed letter by future President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Governor of New York, eight months before being elected as the 32nd President of the United States. His inaugural speech was given on March 4, 1933. Letter is typed on state of New York Executive Chamber stationary. Letter is addressed to Mr. E. Maltby Shipp, Chairman / Newburgh Bicentennial Commission. Appears Mr. Shipp has asked if Roosevelt could attend the Bicentennial. We feel Roosevelt would be interested as George Washington made his Continental Army's Headquarters from 1782 - 1783 in Newburgh on the Hudson River. On the West side of the Hudson River near Newburgh, NY, across the river from Roosevelt's home in Hyde Park, was the Delano Estate known as Algonac. FDR's mother was Sarah Delano. Condition: Letter is in very good condition - clean, crisp, and well preserved with two horizontal folds. Age toned as expected for a letter that is 92 years old! Signature of FDR is clear and attractive. Letter of authenticity is on the back from Walnut's (Walnutt's) Antiques, Brewester, MA, signed and dated by owner Thomas Cardaropoli.
