Description: Gopherweed Baptisia Lanceolata100 Seeds Gopherweed is a poor name for such a beautiful Florida Native! This plant grows into a bush that reaches about knee high. Gorgeous yellow flowers will cover the bush in April - May in the Florida Panhandle. The bumble bees just love to visit the many flowers! Black seed pods will form during the summertime with 3-6 seeds per pod. These seeds are very rare & hard to find! Gopherweed is the host plant for many butterflies including the sulfur, elfin, eastern, and skipper. The large bumble bees are also a big fan! They love to get as far inside the flower as possible! Most plants we find growing natively on our farms are in full sun at the top of the sand-hills. The preferred soil is very sandy & free draining. Gopherweed will die out in the late summer, but it comes back to bloom every April. These seeds were harvested July 2024 Seed Starting Sow seed in the Fall for natural over Winter stratification to see sprigs by Spring. Alternatively, place seeds in the refrigerator for 6-12 weeks prior to planting. Lightly scratch the seed surface to speed up germination.
