Description: This is a vintage antique sample of patented antique barbed wire. This sample features a Joseph F. Glidden patent, dated November 24, 1874. This wire is called "Glidden's Two Point Barbs on Two of Four Twisted Lines with Factory Splice" by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 859-B). (VARIATION - Hagemeier No. does not show the splice, and shows the barbs on one line only). This wire features six round line wires, which are twisted together. Barbs are two pointed made by wrapping a round barbing wire twice around one line wire. Two of the line wires are barbed in this manner. Sample is 18" in length. Wire sample shows moderate pitting. There are six barbs. Barbs are fairly well spaced, and cut is well centered. There is a factory electric butt weld splice on one of the barbed lines. There is some bending of points, but no broken or missing barbing points.
