Description: This is a heinous book. Not for anything grotesque or graphic, but as a pure example of Nazi propaganda obscuring the true agenda. On the surface it is a highly reasonable explication of Nazi domestic policies [including racial views], economic actions and plans, and foreign interests. These are serious and often detailed articles by leading Reich authorities. This is all presented in moderate language and with little extras like a previously unpublished photo of Hitler. Why would Germany go to all this effort in 1938? The 21st century reader knows that this was part of the Nazi attempt to neutralize the UK by promoting the peace/appeasement party, if in fact their vain hope of an alliance with England was impossible. It is a smarmy book, saying that Germany was really no different than the UK--didn't both worry about their racial mix, desire colonies, try to mitigate the unrest of the unemployed? Let's be brothers, it says. No, we do not have savage intent, when in fact we know they did, to a level unparalleled in history. This is a period piece, then. But unlike many period items that give a small glimpse of a humdrum or remote part of the whole, this is from the beating heart of the time, the war-lusting power trying to put its perceived most formidable rival to sleep. Thank God Churchill and others were undeceived!
