Adolfs was a Dutch East Indies painter and architect, dubbed by press as the "Wizard of Light" in his time, and best known for his intimate portraits of his time spent in Java, like this one. Small repair to the canvas, see last photo. Double framing gives it a dramatic, 3-D effect, but looks to be easily removed. Not examined outside of the frame. Approx dimensions of the inner framing is 17 1/4"l x 13 3/4," while overall dimensions are 22 1/4"w x 26"l.
