Description: Georges Doublet (1911-1997), Vintage French Impressionist Oil Painting, The Seine River in Vernon, near Giverny, Normandy, Signed, 1956 This charming vintage French oil on canvas in the Impressionist style shows a view of the Seine river with boats at Vernon in Normandy just across the Seine and slightly north of Monet’s famous gardens in Giverny. In the background can be seen the rooftops and bell tower of the Vernonnet quarter of the city, on the right bank of the river. It is signed “G. Doublet” along with the date “56” (1956). The back is marked “G. Doublet” and titled “La Seine à Vernon”. Georges Doublet (1911-1997), French painter, lived in Vernon where today a street bears his name. He is listed in several art databases and in the sold listings of various auction houses.
