I will say with the backlight that it tends to use battery life a bit quicker, but if you keep the brightness low it lasts longer. Maybe you loose 10-15% vs not having a backlight. Not bad but worth mentioning. So if you plan to play casually you’ll be fine, for longer more serious play throughs where a save is involved I would consider an adapter.
