The 1866 bayonet may also work on 11 mm Mle1874 Gras rifle according to Ralph Cobb. See his excellent website World Bayonets. This example from Chatelleraut has WWI-era German unit markings.The bayonet is in very good condition. The blade is straight and the edge has not been sharpened. The edge has some nicks that you can feel, but nothing obvious or ugly. It has a smooth finish, not rough or pitted, and looks good overall. The brass grip is good. It does not show signs of recent cleaning.The spine is nicely marked in French Mre Impale de Chatt. 8 bre 1869, or imperial manufacturer of Chatelleraut. A couple inspection marks are visible on the right side of the ricasso, what looks like "S" and "P"The left side of the crossguard has German WWI Landwehr (land defense) regimental markings: “93.L.I.3.233” and a number of inspection marks. There are marks on the front side of the guard also.Several inspection marks are visible in the slot in the handle, on the brass and on the top of the steel catch. The pommel is numbered "132."The scabbard is in very good condition. It has a few very small dents and no scratches. The finish is smooth and mostly browned. There's no pitting or recent wear or anything ugly. It's marked "C 5189" at the top front, under the frog. There's another mark on the front edge near the metal loop, and a "2" on the throat. The bottom of the ball tip is marked "T".The leather frog is not original to the bayonet. It is a replacement, but is not a modern reproduction as the leather is old. It's nicely made, with thick leather and fancy stitching. It's not a crude replacement and some research should reveal its origin. It's in good condition, with secure stitching and most of the black finish intact. It's somewhat rigid and has been treated with some Lexol leather conditioner, leading to the shine still visible in the photos. You might apply some leather treatment to help preserve it. The strap that goes through the loop on the scabbard is held in place with a small screw and nut.The overall length is 27-1/2 inches.
