Description: French Model 1845/55 Foot Officers Sword with Metal Scabbard. The spine is marked but is mostly illegible, you can make out a few letters including the cursive "Ch" for the beginning of "Chatellerault", there are no proof marks on the ricasso but there is an interesting "x" mark under the quillon, possible Confederate import. The horn grip has a few chips by the pommel. The twisted wire is gone. The grip and pommel are tight, the guard wiggles a bit because the connection to the pommel is not sealed (it is connected though). The blade is straight, lightly sharpened, several small nicks, and has some light age spots scattered throughout. The scabbard is solid with no dents, light pitting with minor surface rust scattered, and it is missing the middle hanger ring. Washer is intact. Length of the blade is 30 5/8" (1 1/8" wide and 1/4" thick), the sword is 36", and in the scabbard it is 37 5/8". Check out my other Civil War Items! Including Several Swords and Many Bayonets!
