A young boy Mercury as patron god of merchants and a young blacksmith with a cog-wheel as allegory of industrial growth and progress. mounted on a single rectangular white marble or alabaster plinth. Artist: Franz Iffland (b.1862- d.1935) A Berlin Germany born sculptor/painter Active: late 19th and early 20th century. Approx. dimensions: Height: 4” Width: 4” Depth: 2 1/2” Condition: the gilt surface is worn on each figure and they have darkened with age. The marble base shows some damage to the surface. Mercury’s staff is bent above the hand. (See photos)
