Frank Hohenberger was trained as a printer and wound up in Indianapolis working for the Indianapolis Star. He was first employed as a professional photographer for Herman Lieber Co. in 1909. After being back with the Star for a period, he moved to Nashville, IN in 1917 where he opened a photography studio and took to the hills for his subject matter. Hohenberger had always contended he wanted his photographic legacy to be destroyed but as the story goes, no less figure than Herman B. Wells (long of Indiana University) interceded and asked him to please donate his photos and negatives to Indiana University. This came to be and the Hohenberger collection is now housed at Lilly Library at Indiana University.
