FRANK CAPRA - DOCUMENT SIGNED 08/15/1958 CO-SIGNED BY: EDDIE HODGES - HFSID 269443 FRANK CAPRA and EDDIE HODGES. Carbon Typed DS: "Frank Capra" for Frank Capra Productions, Inc. and "Eddie Hodges" under "Approved and Accepted" on last page. Beverly Hills, California, original date 1958 August 15 (later dates in September and October typed at lower margins of some pages). In letter form to Mr. Eddie Hodges, c/o William Morris Agency, Inc. Beverly Hills, California. Hodges is employed as an "actor" in the Capra-produced and directed film, A Hole in the Head. Hodges was to be paid $1,500 per week and would be billed in the film's credits as "and introducing". The contract also covers numerous other points, including additional services and places of performance. Also signed by a representative of Trafalgar Productions, Inc. on last page, and, because Hodges was a minor, by "John W. Hodges" as Father and "Mrs. Sue Hodges" as Mother on page 16. Capra was nominated as Best Director by the Directors Guild of America for this film, which won the Academy Award for Best Song ("High Hopes" by Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn). The film starred Frank Sinatra, Edward G. Robinson, Eleanor Parker, Carolyn Jones, Thelma Ritter and Keenan Wynn and introduced child actor Eddie Hodges. FRANK CAPRA (1897-1991), born in Sicily, was the winner of three Best Director Academy Awards (It Happened One Night,1934; Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, 1936; and You Can't Take It With You, 1938) and the first Hollywood director to have his name precede a film's title. He enjoyed total creative freedom on his sets and also directed, among other films, Lost Horizon (1937), Meet John Doe (1941) and It's A Wonderful Life (1946). Child actor EDDIE HODGES (born in 1947) had already appeared in a Broadway production, The Music Man, when he made his film debut as Ally Manetta in A Hole in the Head. Hodges and Sinatra, who played his father, Tony Manetta, introduced "High Hopes". The following year, Hodges starred in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and in his own TV musical, The Secret World of Eddie Hodges. He appeared in several additional feature films, including Advise and Consent (1962), Summer Magic (1963) and The Happiest Millionaire (1967) before making his last film, Live a Little, Love a Little, in 1968. Hodges, who made his television debut in a This is Your Life salute to Capra (1959), made guest appearances on a number of TV shows through 1969 before returning to the small screen in 1996 on an episode of Law & Order. Lightly creased with folds, not at signatures. Ink stains beneath Hodges' signature nick the last "e" in Eddie and the "Ho" of Hodges. Staple holes at upper left and right margins, 2 file holes at upper blank margins. Overall, fine condition.
