Jamieson (1895-1950). Cottage on the River Teith. Signed with the artist's pseudonym 'W. Richards' to the lower right. Presented in a large gilt-effect frame with the location inscribed verso. On canvas on stretchers. Condition Minor surface restoration to the oil with overpainting in areas. A small tear in the canvas has been patched to the reverse. Light dirtying to the gilt-effect frame. The overall condition of the painting is very good.Biography Francis E. Jamieson (1895-1950) was commonly known for his Scottish landscapes and loch scenes. Jamieson lived on the south coast of England and was contracted to a large department store to supply them with his paintings. The artist often signed with pseudonyms such as 'Phil Hips', 'Graham Williams', 'W. Richards' and 'Arnold Pienne', in order to reach a wider audience, whilst also selling his work ‘door to door’. Jamieson’s work was often in a traditional Victorian style and his pictures were reproduced as postcards by Ajelli and Co of London in the 1920’s. You can view our full collection of these here.
