The obverse, based on a sculpture by Jean-Baptiste-Eugène Farochon, depicts the Roman goddesses Minerva (science & industry) and Ceres (agriculture & abundance) being honored by Marianne, while the reverse ornamentation is by Henri Dubois. The medal was first struck during the 1860’s, although this version probably dates to around 1920.
