Description: I have been shelling at Holden Beach NC for months as last years dredging has brought up fossilized sea biscuits - between 30-60 million years old. This is a phenomenon that has not occurred in any recent memory. So originally these biscuits were a sea urchin millions of years ago. Check out a picture of a sea urchin and you can see how the "petals" on the top of the biscuit formed as it became fossilized. Some biscuits have a little flower is the bottom was the urchins mouth. Some biscuits you cannot see the flower as it has eroded or is covered by fossilized sand. I don't clean the biscuits I sell- I think that is up to the buyer as there are many ways to clean them ( google it and you'll find videos and lots of advice) I do wipe my own collection every now and then with mineral oil just to remoisturize them. Please look at all the pictures carefully before you purchase - make sure you note the “flaws” as these are fossils and millions of years old. Check out the pictures as I do not take returns and this is a very old item.On some of my biscuits you can see the fossilized sand on it Your decision whether to clean it off or leave it. If you have kids it is a great show and tell item especially when they are studying fossils) or is just a pretty beach decor. No
