Description: DS37- Here’s an unusual -shaped piece that held at the right angle looks like a lizard head. It even has a slight depression for the “eye” which with the addition of a small gem stone would totally make this an obvious lizard head. Otherwise, a bit of imagination and displaying it at the proper angle! Shown both wet and dry and it looks better dry! Natural bone, not treated. Weight: 409.03 Grams. Front: Rust, tan, blue and white skin with a varying texture that looks like scales. The shape and curvature of the piece suggest (to me) a lizard head (looking at it from the side.) 3 1/2 Wide X 2 1/2 Tall Left Side X 3 tall middle X 3/8 Right edge/nose. Back: More rust with less tan, less curves, deep crevice line. 3 3/4 Widest X 2 1/2 Tallest to 1/2 at nose end. Left side: Rust and tan cells with two patches of dark row with white agate and some crystal cells.Mainly 2 1/2 Wide X 1 1/4 inches to 2 inches Tall. Right Side/ Bottom: The right side is steeply angled and has three crevice lines that form the divide between the “nostrils” and form the “mouth.” Has diverse texture, with the throat area being fine “scales” with whitish matrix setting off small rust and tan cells. 3 1/4 tall X Mainly 2 inches wide. Top: Pointed “nose” with deep crack for the mouth. It has whitish, orange and brown vertical lines above the mouth line, and fine multi-colored skin for the soft underside of the “throat.” Dinosaurs first appeared at the end of the Middle Triassic or in early Late Triassic time, approximately 230 million years ago. The primitive dinosaurs of the Triassic were neither as abundant nor as varied as they would become in Jurassic and Cretaceous times. The fluvial (stream-deposited) sediments of the Morrison Formation dominated the Upper Jurassic landscape of eastern Utah. Originating approximately 150 million years ago as floodplain deposits, the Morrison Formation is exposed throughout the Colorado Plateau, including Colorado, Wyoming, eastern Utah, northern New Mexico, parts of Montana and South Dakota, and the panhandle of Oklahoma.
