Description: Fossil Dinosaur Gem Bone - SS57- Two pieces/Jurassic/Morrison Formation. Gosh the weather just didn't want to cooperate, alternating with partly cloudy and not the best light. But, I guarantee you will be thrilled with the colors. SS57 - Set of Two very colorful gem bone pieces. Distinct colors and patterns stand out even dry! Smooth both sides and a long the bases. Weight: 60.30 Grams. Shown both wet and dry. Piece A: Front-Bright, big cells of red and orange with dark webbing and whitish-pink. A nice darker patch fairly center and to base with ambers and smokey-grey crystal colors. The bold centers and colors are offset by an arch of lighter going around the piece. Very eye-catching and the colors and patterns stand out even when dry. The BACK of the piece has less surface area due to the irregular eroded area. It has a lot of big red cells, some yellow, and the lighter tans and amber run more through the center of the piece.Smooth base is TWO inches both front & back. 1 3/4 Tall straight edge-both front & back. The front is 1 1/4 at the top and 1 1/8 top/back. Angled edge/front- 2 1/4 inches. Mainly 1/4 inch thick, has one taller area (where saw didn’t cut the last sliver off-1/2 there.) Piece B: Front-An exciting array of color and cell structure. Big bold bright red with orange sweeping through the center, offset by amber and smokey grey. Outer band of pink, amber going from top and along the left edge.Back- Has an angled edge on the right, so not quite the surface area. This side has some very nice orange and red cells surrounded by fine yellow edges. The pink and tan bands of color go around the top and down the right/jagged edge. 2 1/8 Tall (front & back).1 3/4 inches wide/BASE/front & back. Width- 1 3/4 widest, both front & back. Uniform 1/4 inch thick, but the outermost jagged edge on back narrows to 1/8th inch. . Utah is the site of the earliest Morrison dinosaur discovery, Dystrophaeus viaemalae, a sauropod dinosaur discovered on the 1859 Macomb Expedition to southeastern Utah.Although Utah is most famous for its Morrison Formation dinosaur fauna, Utah has a prolific fossil record that spans the entire "Age of Dinosaurs." The dinosaurs thrived for over 150 million years. The fluvial (stream-deposited) sediments of the Morrison Formation dominated the Upper Jurassic landscape of eastern Utah. Originating approximately 150 million years ago as floodplain deposits, the Morrison Formation is exposed throughout the Colorado Plateau, including Colorado, Wyoming, eastern Utah, northern New Mexico, parts of Montana and South Dakota, and the panhandle of Oklahoma. The well-known Morrison dinosaur fauna includes Utah's official state fossil, the meat-eating theropod Allosaurus; other theropods, including Ceratosaurus, Stokesosaurus, and Marshosaurus; the sauropod dinosaurs Apatosaurus (commonly known as Brontosaurus), Camarasaurus, and Diplodocus; and the ornithischians Camptosaurus, Dryosaurus, and Stegosaurus.
