Description: FINE VICTORIAN ROWNEY BRASS BOUND ROSEWOOD CAMPAIGN TYPE ART / PAINT BOX This is a beautiful, and I would think quite rare late Victorian, Rowney Brass Bound Rosewood Campaign Type Art / Paint Box, which dates to the 1901 (this is taken from the dedication inscription to the brass cartouche plate); however, it was probably made a year or two earlier. It is depicted in a rectangular Rosewood box form with its original (working) key and the mentioned campaign type brass strapping. Its contents consists of :- various original Rowney watercolour bricks on a tray, while below is a pencil / pen tray, next is the original ceramic colour pallet with the printed under glaze Rowney trade plate to its underside, beneath this is a four section receptacle for graphite, chalk, and charcoal sticks (with several in their original wrapping still present, beside this, to the left, is a two lidded bottle compartment, while to the right is a glass water receptacle, and to the front is a compartment for brushes and pencils. Below these is a concealed drawer accessed by a flush hinged brass pull handle and secured by a brass fixing pin. Lastly there is a large red / gilt Rowney trade plate to the inner lid - see photographs and details. It measures 9 1/2" (25cm) W x 7 1/2" (19cm) D x 4" (10cm) H approx; and is in very good original condition for a piece of its age and type, although it does have some minor faults. Firstly, there is an old, filled stress crack left hand side, a small chip to the back of the bottle divider, a small glaze chip to the ceramic pallet and the general wear and tear of a used box of its type to report. These, not-withstanding, the box is actually in quite good shape for a period and, obviously, used box of its type. I think I've described it as well as I possibly can - see photographs and details. This is a lovely period Rowney Brass Bound Rosewood Paint Box in fine original condition that with a low start price should get considerable interest from all collectors . ** THERE IS NO RESERVE ON THIS SALE *** INSURANCE IS INCLUDED IN THE SHIPPING PRICES QUOTED IN MOST CASES (SEE BELOW) TERMS & CONDITIONS Please read this as it's designed to make transactions with my customers as simple and transparent as possible.
