Ocassionally, but not often, adult men also appeared in this role. But children, that must have been super scace. The boy in this image wears an extraordinary ornate costume. The circus Circassians were also promoted to suggest their involvement in the Occult Arts! As part of their act, some read Tarot cards, others told Fortunes, did Magic and some were even Snake Charmers. It would be interesting to know what this boy’s act involved.
