Description: Ertl Collectibles 1930 Stearman 4E Chevron Aviation 1st In Series is a diecast propeller plane model with a 1:38 scale. It was manufactured in 2004 and is recommended for adult collectors. The plane is a replica of the 1930 Stearman 4E and is the first die cast in the series. When Charles Lindberg flew the Atlantic in 1927, he recognized that the gas produced by Standard Oil was a superior product and would give him more range per gallon, then he ordered 500 gallons of gas and got them delivered to New York. He then used that gas for his very famous flight. The company Standard Oil quickly took advantage of their fame and ordered three very special airplanes to be built to their specification. The three planes were based on the Stearman 4E design, these planes were so expensive that they were more expensive than the most expensive Duesenberg that was built. The three planes were positioned in Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. They were built for salesmen who flew, but they also appeared at many air shows, gave rides, and they were able to cover 10,000 miles per month in sales calls. This effort and these special aircraft were were important in order to make Standard Oil a world leader in the aviation world. They were also a part of an exciting chapter in the development of the Chevron effort.
