I know the artist was Swedish but anything beyond that and looking at the other examples of impressionist landscape paintings by Ericson online would take some research. It would help to be fluent in Swedish, which I’m not.I think this may be a painting of the bridge in Karlstad, Sweden. If not, it’s a nearly identical looking bridge. That city is associated with sunshine and it’s symbol is a smiling sun! In my 25 years as an art dealer, I’ve never come across a Swedish painting. How this oil on canvas found it’s way to New Jersey, USA is a mystery.This is an unframed oil painting on it’s original, European stretcher bars. You can see the numbers in centimeters on the wood stretchers. It’s affixed with tacks, not staples, and feels relatively heavy for a painting this size. The artist had a great technique -- really nice brushstrokes.I can see that the painting is dirty. It would benefit from cleaning. There’s a little puncture and indent above the signature area that could be repaired. The areas along edges where the painting was stuck to the inside of previous framing should hide if / when properly framed.
