PROVENANACE: There is the signature of JACQUES LESCHASSIER (1550 -1625) a French writer and Jurist, Lawyer at the Parliament of Paris. In 1605, he intervened on behalf of the Republic of Venice in a dispute with Pope Paul V. His argument, which was highly appreciated, earned him great fame. Gilt-stamped leather boards, re-backed in stamped calf with raised bands and gilt-titled black morocco label, with fresh endpapers. Folio; Title page in Greek and Latin, main text in Greek. With Estienne device on title page, occasional printed marginalia, and decorated initials. A VERY SCARCE BOOK. Hardly seen in auctions.
