Our organic steam distilled Lemon essential oil has a bright, effervescent, fresh lemon aroma, and is softer than, and not as tart as our cold-pressed Lemon. Like most citrus peel oils, limonene is the dominant molecule in Lemon oil, with supporting roles by a tiny minority of refreshing terpenoid volatiles that lend a zesty bite to this aroma.This oil, while steam distilled, is not considered bergapten-free (FCF*). Steam distilled Lemon oil does have considerably fewer photosensitizing compounds than cold pressed Lemon (<50 ppm for distilled Lemon vs. 5000 ppm for cold pressed). For comparison, a typical Bergamot FCF contains <15 ppm, so there are still enough photosensitizing elements to merit using discretion if using distilled Lemon in topical applications.1Citrus limon is native to Asia and is thought to be a hybrid of citron (C. medica) and pomelo (C. maxima).2 The fresh, optimistic aroma is instantly recognizable, like seeing a familiar face in a crowd of strangers.
