The work and the living you did was the same things, not separated out like today.” The book has edge wear with rub to the tips, nudges to the spine ends, and some scattered spotting to the block. The boards remain reasonably straight, binding is square, and internally there is a small name and phone number penned on the front end page. The dust jacket is sunned (aren’t they all?), soiled, and has shelf wear with a short tear and shallow bites. This example has a printed literary review/article on Proulx and The Shipping News. We are unable to verify if this review was published but all indication is that it is some form of early draft which still has formatting errors and a handful of syntax issues. In all likelihood this was a working copy of some sort for the author of the review.— we say this because there is marginalia on the book in very light pencil and legible hand. There is no doubt that the writing is easy to remove but is unobtrusive and is part of the story as much as the draft review which was tucked inside. An interesting and unique example in these respects. The Shipping news would go on to be the Winner of the Pulitzer Prize as well as the National Book Award. Basis for the rather good and sadly forgotten adaptation of the same title from 2001 which starred Kevin Spacey, Julianne Moore, Judi Dench, and Cate Blanchett.
